Clickety
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Clickety developed relationship-management software for managers to keep track of people, conversations and notes.
02 / Clickety FAILURE REASONS
Failure factors supported by the current evidence
The Hustle (7 Apr 2024), based on founder Luke Kanies, reported Clickety never generated revenue; the product was more complex than expected and too incomplete for most users; Kanies could not raise a further round because he struggled to explain the new category to investors; and debilitating heart problems meant he was not well enough to fundraise or take more capital. GeekWire (31 Aug 2021) contemporaneously quoted his customer email that the team was prioritizing health and was not able to continue.
Kanies could not close another round after struggling to pitch an incomplete new-category product, and judged he should not take more investor money given his health uncertainty.
Debilitating heart problems were reported as a reason he could not withstand another fundraising round.
The product was more complex and time-consuming than expected and lacked features for most prospective users; the beta had about 150 active users and no revenue.
