01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
dba.dk was Denmark's largest online classifieds and auctions site, operated by Den Blå Avis A/S. The company began in 1981 as a printed classified advertising circular founded by Jac Nellemann and became Denmark's largest distributor of private person-to-person sales, later expanding online with dba.dk and the vehicle classifieds site bilbasen.dk. In October 2008, eBay acquired dba.dk for $390 million in cash, seeing it as a challenger strong enough to compete with eBay in its own market.
