CloudNordic
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
CloudNordic was a Danish cloud hosting provider owned by Certiqa Holding (together with sister brand AzeroCloud). The self-described 'Nordic cloud experts' offered website hosting, email systems and customer cloud infrastructure to Danish businesses.
02 / CloudNordic FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
In the early hours of August 18, 2023, criminals launched a ransomware attack that shut down all of CloudNordic's systems: websites, email servers and customer systems were paralyzed, and both production data and backup systems were encrypted. The company said it could not and would not meet the ransom demands, and it ultimately proved impossible to recover more data - the majority of customers lost everything. The attack effectively ended the business.

The company refused to pay the ransom, reported the attack to the police, and effectively ceased operations.
