01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

SmarterCookie was an education technology startup founded by Tess Brustein (a former Teach for America teacher) and Michael Gerson, launched in fall 2012 through the ImagineK12 edtech incubator. It enabled teachers to take control of their own professional development through an easy video coaching and sharing platform: teachers could upload classroom videos and receive timestamped peer and leader feedback. It followed a freemium model—free video sharing for teachers, paid subscriptions for schools, districts, organizations and universities—and raised about $100K.
