AYOXXA
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
AYOXXA Biosystems was an international biotech company based in Cologne, Germany, with operations in Singapore and Boston. Founded in 2010 as a spin-off of the National University of Singapore (NUS), it developed a proprietary platform for multiplexed protein analysis built on 'In-situ Encoded Bead-based Arrays' (IEBA) - bead-on-a-chip biochips that could measure multiple proteins in minute sample volumes and generate 10,000-fold more data points than a standard 384-well ELISA. Commercialized as the LUNARIS platform with ready-to-use biomarker detection kits, the technology targeted biomedical research, drug discovery and preclinical diagnostics, including a completed research collaboration with Grunenthal GmbH. The company raised about $15 million in total funding and filed for bankruptcy in November 2022 after a promised financing round led by Prosnav Capital failed to materialize.
02 / AYOXXA FAILURE REASONS
Failure factors supported by the current evidence
A 4 November 2022 transkript report republished by Deutsche Börse Cash Market states Cologne multiplex-proteomics firm AYOXXA Biosystems filed for insolvency after Prosnav Capital funding dried up at the end of August 2022; bridge-financing talks failed, salaries stopped, and CEO Albrecht Läufer said the company had been abandoned by that investor and could not find replacements in time.
The report says Prosnav Capital's Hong Kong and Luxembourg funds stopped the inflow of money at the end of August 2022 and contact ended after failed bridge-financing talks.
Salaries stopped in August; employment-agency wage cover ran only through October, which the article says was too short to find new investors.
