Patterbuzz
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Patterbuzz was a Bangalore-based startup founded in December 2012 by Amit Goel, a former NDS/Cisco digital TV executive. It set out to build an ecosystem for the magazine publishing industry — connecting publishers, readers and advertisers — with a rich, interactive reading experience for premium magazine and media content that users would pay for.
02 / Patterbuzz FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
Patterbuzz shut down because it ran out of money. In the founder's own words, the company never had enough cash in the bank: it raised only a small seed round from a few local investors, could not secure venture capital for the next round, and closed in March 2015 after more than two years of operation despite gaining traction. The paid-content model also proved hard to sell in India's highly price-sensitive market.
