01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Looklive (Atlanta; Y Combinator Summer 2016) was a men's fashion app — a community and marketplace for shopping celebrity looks. Users could browse 60,000+ celebrity styles and buy the looks. The company combined the teams, technology and content of three businesses: Looklive, Curateurs (which had grown to 1 million users, acquired Looklive and took its name), and UpscaleHype (a high-end lifestyle magazine bought as the content channel). Founders Cedric Rogers (10-year Apple veteran), Greg Selkoe (Karmaloop founder) and Dr. Paul Judge deliberately avoided inventory, pursuing an asset-light, referral/partnership model instead.
