01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Vector BioPharma is a Basel, Switzerland-based biopharmaceutical company developing a precision gene delivery platform devoid of viral genes. Launched in 2021 out of Versant Ventures' Ridgeline Discovery Engine with a $30 million Series A commitment, it was led by CEO Lorenz Mayr. Its platform, developed in the lab of protein-engineering pioneer Andreas Plückthun at the University of Zürich, combines high-capacity virus-like particles with designed adapter proteins (the SHREAD platform) to deliver large genetic payloads precisely to target cells — addressing tissue specificity, cargo-size limits and immunogenicity of existing gene-delivery methods.
