01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Ubble was a French remote identity-verification startup, founded in 2018 by François Wyss, Juliette Delanoë and Nicolas Debernardi. Its service used live video streaming and AI to verify users' identities in real time and fight fraud, supporting 2,000 document types from around the world while emphasizing GDPR compliance and data security. Backed by Partech, Breega, Kima Ventures, Bpifrance and business angels, it raised over €10 million in seed funding and grew to nearly 100 employees. In May 2022 payments company Checkout.com — fresh off a $1 billion raise — announced it would acquire Ubble to add identity verification to its financial product suite, especially for its crypto and fintech merchant customers; the deal was expected to close later that year, with the whole team joining Checkout.com.
