01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
AVEC was a Brooklyn-based beverage startup that made better-for-you canned cocktail mixers. Founded in 2020 by former Columbia Business School classmates Denetrias "Dee" Charlemagne and Alex Doman, the brand launched with five carbonated mixers - Jalapeno & Blood Orange, Grapefruit & Pomelo, Hibiscus & Pomegranate, Yuzu & Lime, and a ginger beer - made with real fruit juice and natural botanicals, each can containing four grams of sugar or less. The company sold over 100,000 units in its first year, launched a co-branded line with Williams Sonoma, and raised more than $1 million in venture funding.

03 / EVENT HISTORY
Events in the structured record
- Operations ended
On 19 November 2025, Proxies co-founder/president Charlie Friedmann wrote that AVEC Drinks had shut down operations the prior year, then that Proxies was taking on the brand's community after that shutdown.
- Asset sale
BevNET (20 Nov 2025) headlined that Proxies acquired Avec's assets for a mocktail launch; NYSDOS records a 12 Dec 2025 certificate of termination for AVEC DRINKS CO. (DOS 5745090). This is treated as residual/asset sale after operations had already ceased, not a going-concern merger.
