Zilingo
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Zilingo was a Singapore-based B2B fashion technology platform founded in 2015, digitizing the global apparel supply chain with sourcing from factories, free analytics, logistics and secure payments for brands and merchants. Backed by Temasek and Sequoia Capital India, it raised hundreds of millions of dollars and was valued at nearly $1 billion at its peak. In January 2023 it entered liquidation.
02 / Zilingo FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
Zilingo collapsed after a crisis of financial trust. In April 2022, co-founder and CEO Ankiti Bose was suspended and then fired amid complaints about alleged financial irregularities, which she denied; her auditor had raised questions about how the company accounted for transactions and revenue across thousands of small merchants. The fundraising talks that could have valued the company above $1 billion stalled, lenders accelerated loan repayments, and over 100 employees resigned. With creditors knocking, the board appointed provisional liquidators from EY in January 2023 and the company entered creditors' voluntary winding up the next month, unable to continue because of its liabilities.

05 / CAUSAL CHAIN
How the factors connect
- 01
Financial controls must scale with the business: questions about Zilingo's revenue accounting destroyed investor trust and killed its funding.
- 02
A founder-CEO conflict that plays out in public accelerates collapse; boards and founders need dispute mechanisms that do not destroy the company.
- 03
When lenders lose confidence, the end comes fast: Zilingo's lenders recalled loans and sold assets, leaving liquidation as the only path.
