Treehouse Logic

The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.

01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Treehouse Logic was an e-commerce startup founded by Dave Sloan building a visual configurator platform — custom design tools that let consumers configure and personalize products online. The company assembled strong assets: solid technology, rich data on shopping behavior, a reputation as a thought leader, deep expertise and well-known advisors.

02 / Treehouse Logic FAILURE REASONS

Failure reasons

Treehouse Logic died of the most common startup cause: no market need. In his shutdown post-mortem, founder Dave Sloan wrote that they were not solving a large enough problem to serve with a scalable solution — they had great technology, great shopping-behavior data, great reputation, expertise and advisors, but neither technology nor a business model that solved a real pain point in a scalable way. CB Insights later cited it as a textbook 'no market need' failure.
