01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Locus Robotics (founded 2014, Wilmington, Massachusetts; spun out of Quiet Logistics after Amazon's 2012 Kiva acquisition) builds collaborative autonomous mobile robots (LocusBots) for warehouse order picking. The robots work alongside human pickers — ferrying picked items across warehouse floors — sold as robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) under the LocusONE orchestration platform. It serves retail, healthcare, manufacturing and 3PL customers across 20+ countries with 17,000+ robots in the field.

03 / EVENT HISTORY
Events in the structured record
- Founded
Founded in 2014 as a Quiet Logistics spinoff, breaking out of grid-based automation limitations with collaborative AMRs.
- Series E
Raised a $200 million Series E in 2021, pushing toward unicorn valuation; followed by a $117 million Series F in 2022.
- Recorded event year
The dataset records a 2026 'reported_failure'. No failure event could be verified: Locus reported record growth in October 2025 (6 billion picks), launched the Locus Array physical-AI product line in April 2026, issued $41.6M in stock in 2026, and is relocating its European HQ to Logistics Campus Aalsmeer. The only negative event found was a small targeted layoff in January (post-COVID over-hiring correction). The 2026 failure record appears to be a data error; kept as recorded but flagged for review.
