01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Ditto Labs was a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based computer vision company founded in 2012 by David Rose, MIT Media Lab instructor and author of Enchanted Objects. Its visual listening platform scanned the firehose of public photos on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr to discover and tag brands, scenes and objects, analyzing faces and smiles for sentiment. Clients such as Kraft Foods paid to find product logos in social photos and target consumers based on photo content. The company raised $8.8 million in total, including a $2.2 million round in 2014 (Cue Ball Capital, Stage 1 Ventures) and a Series C led by Red Fort Capital.
