01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Mighty AI was a Seattle startup founded in 2014 that developed training data for computer vision models, led by CEO Daryn Nakhuda. Its platform labeled data at scale using AI and user-experience techniques, serving enterprise clients including Samsung, Microsoft, Intel, Accenture and Siemens. Having raised about $27 million, it was acquired by Uber on June 25-26, 2019 to fuel the Advanced Technologies Group's push into self-driving cars: Uber took over Mighty AI's intellectual property, tooling, tech talent and labeling community, with more than 40 employees joining Uber's Seattle engineering office as a team within the self-driving division. As part of the deal, Mighty AI's clients were notified that the company's operations would shut down, and president Isaac Kato left the company, later becoming managing director of Techstars Seattle.
