01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Invenia was a Cambridge, UK-based machine-learning company applying AI to electricity systems, with offices in Cambridge and Winnipeg. Its ambitious plan was to build a comprehensive global database of conventional and renewable energy systems, from supply and transmission to the demand side, to help plan and optimize the power grid. The team published machine-learning research on problems such as optimal power flow and Gaussian-process modelling at conferences including ICML 2019 and NeurIPS 2019. In 2017 the company raised a $5 million Series A round. No failure or shutdown event has been reported.
