Performlive
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
PerformLive was an East Hanover, New Jersey startup founded in June 2016 by Oksana Sokolovsky (CEO) and Rohit Mahajan (CTO). It built an augmented-reality live-commerce platform letting individuals, businesses and brands monetise talent and products through interactive live streams — with simulcast broadcasting across social channels, paywalled streams, AI-driven chat analysis, AR-powered virtual try-on, and e-commerce tools such as inventory and shipping labels. It initially focused on health and wellness creators.
02 / Performlive FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
PerformLive never turned its live-commerce vision into a sustainable business. Despite a seed round of about $815,000 (backed by 37 Angels and Golden Seeds), a Product Hunt launch and a Republic equity-crowdfunding campaign in 2021, the platform could not attract enough creators, sellers and paying users in the crowded live-commerce space. PitchBook records PerformLive as 'Out of Business' on June 24, 2022.
