01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Socrative was a Boston-based edtech startup founded in 2010 (initial prototype by Amit Maimon at MIT; co-founders Benjamin Berte and Michael West; an Imagine K12 graduate). It offered a free, cloud-based real-time student response system: teachers created and distributed quizzes and polls in class via web or mobile apps, and students responded from laptops, tablets or phones, giving teachers instant insight into comprehension. It raised a $750,000 seed round from True Ventures, NewSchools Ventures and Boston angels, and reached over 750,000 teacher users worldwide.
