PlayAI (originally PlayHT, founded 2021) was a voice-AI company founded by Mahmoud Felfel and Hammad Syed, two engineers who previously built Dubai classifieds platform Dubizzle. Its platform offered text-to-speech, instant voice cloning, and real-time speech models — notably Play Dialog, a multi-turn conversational model trained on hundreds of millions of conversations, and Play 3.0 Mini, a fast multilingual TTS model — plus a no-code builder for conversational voice agents. It marketed 900+ voices across 140+ languages and raised about $21 million in seed funding from Kindred Ventures, 500 Global, Y Combinator and others.
