01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Mobile reCell was an Indiana-based startup, founded in September 2014 by Ben Jones and Nate Poynter as a side project in Indianapolis/Carmel. It built a software platform that gave companies a chain of custody for recycling company-owned IT assets — smartphones, tablets and laptops — automating their recovery, repurposing, resale and recycling with real-time tracking, so devices stayed out of landfills and corporate data stayed secure. Early clients included Honeywell and Groupon. On January 22, 2024, Apkudo Inc. acquired Mobile reCell in a $36 million deal.
