01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Clade Therapeutics, founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2021 by Chad Cowan, developed off-the-shelf cell therapies from induced pluripotent stem cells. Its platform immune-cloaked iPSCs and differentiated them into therapeutic cells, aiming for scalable, consistent medicines for cancer and autoimmune disease. The company launched with an $87 million Series A led by Syncona in November 2021, acquired Dutch gamma-delta TCR company Gadeta in 2023, and was itself acquired by Century Therapeutics in April 2024.
