01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Narrative Science was a Chicago-based AI company founded in 2010, a global leader in data storytelling and natural-language generation. Its platform (Quill, and later Lexio, introduced in late 2019) automated the analysis and communication of insights from data, connecting to an organization's on-premise or cloud data and using augmented intelligence and machine learning to generate narrative stories. On November 15, 2021 the company revealed an agreement to be acquired by Salesforce; upon closing it became part of Tableau. The acquisition closed before the end of Salesforce's fiscal year (January 31, 2022); Salesforce granted equity awards to 55 Narrative Science employees on January 26, 2022. Financial terms were not disclosed.
