01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Ionpath was a Menlo Park, California-based pioneer in high-definition spatial proteomics, co-founded by CEO Harris Fienberg and Stanford pathologist Mike Angelo. Its proprietary MIBIscope platform used multiplexed ion beam imaging (MIBI) to simultaneously image 40 or more individual proteins on a single slide with true subcellular resolution, serving immuno-oncology and translational research. The company closed an $18 million Series B round in September 2020 led by Samsara BioCapital with Bruker participating, and received a strategic investment from Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2022. In May 2023 it shifted to a services business, suspending standalone sales of MIBI instruments.
