01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
LikeBetter was a Y Combinator Summer 2006 startup from San Francisco, founded by Sol Kennedy. It was an online personality test game: users looked at pairs of photos and chose which one they 'Like Better', and after a few responses the site guessed at their personality — from political preferences to income bracket. It also ran a 'bizarro' version called HateMore. The flash-based game discovered correlations between image choices and self-reported traits, and its data later powered Pairwise, a hiring-oriented personality test startup.
