Shipitwise
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Shipitwise was an Estonian logistics startup founded in 2016 by Aleksander Gansen, Olari Miiter, Ragmar Saksing and co-founders. It began as door-to-door shipping for travelers' luggage and sports equipment, then built a SaaS platform giving instant, dynamic freight quotes — an algorithm-driven ‘fair price’ layer over freight logistics. It raised about €419,400.
02 / Shipitwise FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
Shipitwise was too early and too threatening for the freight industry: big freight companies, whose profits depended on high margins charged to smaller businesses, were unwilling to embrace transparent pricing — 99% of carriers had no machine-to-machine interfaces. Industry players said the team was 2-5 years too early and demand was not there yet. After four years of unsuccessful integration efforts, operations were halted in 2019, and assets, people and contracts were acquired by Speys.
