01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Catalyst was a New York City customer success platform founded in 2017 by brothers Edward Chiu and Kevin Chiu, previously of DigitalOcean. Its B2B software helped customer success and account management teams centralize siloed customer data, get a clear view of account health and product usage, and manage renewal and expansion workflows — positioned as the mid-market answer to Gainsight. Backed by Accel, Spark Capital, True Ventures and Work-Bench, it raised over $45 million including a $25 million Series B in 2020, and served roughly 250 customers. In February 2024 it merged with rival Totango in a stock-for-stock merger; the combined company rebranded under the Totango name in January 2025.
