01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Balsa was a San Francisco startup founded in 2020 by Paul Rosania, previously Senior Director of Product at Slack and a Group Product Manager at Twitter. It built a 'second screen for builders' - a productivity tool for engineers and product teams that integrated the tools they already used, such as Jira, GitHub and Figma, into a single interface. The company came out of stealth with a $4.5 million seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz (Andrew Chen), joined by Operator Collective, BoxGroup, 20VC, Chapter One, Work Life Ventures and angels including Stewart Butterfield, Drew Houston, Howie Liu, April Underwood, Scott Belsky and Jason Warner.
