Rendeevoo
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Rendeevoo was a London-based dating startup founded in 2012 by George Christoforakis and Jorn Vanysacker, launched in 2014. Billing itself as an 'Uber for real life dates,' it rejected the swipe-and-chat model: users browsed profiles, placed an 'order' for a date, picked a venue and time, and paid for the first round of drinks at one of Rendeevoo's partnered bars — with Rendeevoo splitting the revenue with the venue. The date was confirmed only when both parties paid for their drink. Over its life it raised six small rounds, including a £50,000 Seedrs campaign it overfunded in March 2016, and launched a revamped version 2.0 of the app.
02 / Rendeevoo FAILURE REASONS
Why it failed
Rendeevoo died for the most common reason: it could not raise its next round. After the Seedrs campaign and the v2.0 relaunch, the team was optimistic about growth into new London areas, but when it came time to raise again, the money was not there. Co-founder Christoforakis told Global Dating Insights that around mid-October the company realized its 'fundraising plans were not meeting the target we had set' — there was not enough capital to keep the business going, so it shut down after about three years of operations.
