01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
SocialPicks was a Mountain View-based social investing community co-founded by Weiting Liu. Unlike rivals that tracked real portfolios, it worked like a fantasy sports league: users selected companies they thought would perform well and received a score based on the accuracy of their 'picks' and average return, while exchanging news and advice. It entered limited beta in 2006 and raised $500,000 from Bay Partners and others at the end of 2007.
