01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Compgun was a San Francisco Y Combinator Winter 2016 company founded by Jake Seip and Tim Sze (a nod in name to Mailgun) that built cloud-based sales commission software - 'the first sales commission software that everyone can love.' The self-serve SaaS let companies build, test, and administer commission structures for salespeople, generating individualized commission statements and KPIs with a click, uploading data from various sources and integrating with Salesforce, replacing the spreadsheets and email most companies relied on. It launched in beta in Q2 2015, counted customers such as Optimizely and Intercom, and charged $25-35 per user per month.
