01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Braces On Demand was a Hicksville, New York-based orthodontic technology startup founded in 2019 by Colin Corey, Ammar Syed and Dr. Tom Shannon. It built a web application that lets orthodontists 3D-print customized orthodontic brackets, buccal tubes, buttons and fixed appliances in their own offices, picking from a library of devices and customizing them per case; it also delivers printed cases to practices without their own 3D printers. The solution received FDA 510(k) clearance in 2020, and the company raised $2.53 million, with its latest round being a Series A. The company appears to still operate - no shutdown or failure event has been documented.
