01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Thinkature was a Y Combinator (2006) online collaboration startup. Its product was a free, browser-based shared whiteboard: users could create, move, edit and connect visual elements — diagrams, images, text, freehand drawings — on a shared dashboard, with instant messaging (and later audio/video calls) built inside the visual workspace. Workspaces could be private, public or invite-only, with no limit on collaborators. It was aimed at distributed teams and even caught on in education circles as a classroom tool. The company never found a sustainable model and quietly faded; thinkature.com is now a parked domain.

Events in the structured record
- Launched from YC
Thinkature launches as a Y Combinator 2006 company; TechCrunch reviews it as an online collaboration environment where users chat and draw diagrams on a shared whiteboard.
- Fades away
The free service is still being bookmarked and recommended through late 2009; after that it disappears from the web with no acquisition or shutdown announcement, and the domain is eventually parked.
