Doohickey AI
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Doohickey AI was a Columbus, Ohio startup building an AI-powered system of action for enterprise software integrations. Originally founded in 2020 as Blended Edge and led by CEO Ryan Lunka, it went through Techstars and later rebranded, positioning its platform as a way to generate, monitor, manage and troubleshoot integrations between ERPs, CRMs and eCommerce systems without expensive consultants. Drive Capital invested $500,000 in September 2024. The company announced its shutdown in December 2025, effective January 1, 2026.
02 / Doohickey AI FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
In his farewell post, CEO Ryan Lunka named four intertwined causes: a long battle to find product-market fit (the company was pre-seed with only a handful of customers), the difficulty of selling a deeply technical product, the challenge of keeping up with a fast-moving AI paradigm, and building an ambitious AI company in Columbus, Ohio, far from the talent and capital networks of coastal tech hubs. Even a fresh round from a recognized regional VC in 2024 could not buy enough runway: subscale enterprise sales cycles and competition from fast-moving foundation models kept it from building a defensible, growing business. This concerns Doohickey AI's specific position, not AI integration tooling in general.
