Fanimal
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Fanimal was a Santa Monica ticketing startup founded by Jonny Halprin that sold event tickets at transparent prices with group-purchase features, aimed at fans and small-to-mid-sized venues. It grew to more than 250,000 users before ceasing operations in late 2024; its technology was later acquired by TickPick.
02 / Fanimal FAILURE REASONS
Failure factors
In its Dec 2025 antitrust complaint as reported by Billboard, Fanimal alleged Ticketmaster exclusive venue contracts blocked it from major venues, capping scale so it could not raise further venture funding, and that Live Nation/Ticketmaster anticompetitive conduct forced it to sell to TickPick for only a modest amount.
Ticketmaster exclusive contracts and alleged Live Nation tying foreclosed major venues.
ceiling on scale closed the door on further VC funding.

MBW reports Fanimal ceased operations in late 2024; its Dec 30 complaint (quoted) says it was forced to shutter its ticketing business and sell its parts. Billboard adds it shut down and was sold to TickPick in 2024 for a 'modest amount'.
