01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Nurx was a telehealth platform best known for providing affordable birth control. Founded in 2015, it worked with insurers such as Aetna and Anthem, then expanded beyond the pill into STI testing, HIV prevention with PrEP, at-home HPV testing, dermatology treatments (rosacea, acne, aging), and migraine care. It raised more than $150 million (valued at $332–500 million at various times), including a $22.5 million extension of its 2019 Series C. In an all-stock merger with telehealth unicorn Thirty Madison — announced in February 2022 — Nurx became part of the combined Thirty Madison platform, serving over 750,000 active patients under the Thirty Madison brand, with Nurx CEO Varsha Rao becoming head of Nurx.
