01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
OSO-AI was a French AI startup founded in 2018 in Brest, spun out of the IMT Atlantique incubator by researcher Claude Berrou and STMicroelectronics engineer Olivier Menut. It built AI that recognizes sounds in the environment: a small Wi-Fi device placed in nursing-home bedrooms acts as an 'augmented ear', trained on 150 classes of sounds (shouts, falls, choking, respiratory problems), and alerts caregivers on their phones in real time. It raised a €4 million round (Innovacom, Novinvest, Breizh Up) and launched its ARI (Smart Resident Assistant) product in care facilities.
