01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
WATERFX was a Healdsburg, California cleantech company that developed solar-powered water treatment technology. Its Aqua4 system used concentrating solar thermal troughs to desalinate irrigation drainage water - leftover from farming salt-tolerant crops - producing freshwater, recovering salts and minerals, and restoring farmland and local ecosystems. The process claimed to evaporate and distill water 30 times more efficiently than natural evaporation.
