01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Teevox was a Y Combinator startup (S10, Cupertino) building 'eSports Super TV' — a service that let viewers watch three esports streams at once in a magical multi-stream experience. It was run as a one-person venture.
02 / Teevox FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
After strong growth through 2011, Teevox faltered in 2012: seven months of stagnation and decline. The scene had become crowded with Teevox-like products all competing for a fraction of a tiny esports viewership, and other product-line attempts came up short. The founder — hemorrhaging money and demoralized by the downward trend — discontinued Teevox in late 2012, concluding it could never become self-sustainable. He relaunched a sleeker Teevox in 2016, but it too eventually died.
