01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Rizq was a London-based fintech founded in 2020 by Akmal Saleem, Dennis Nemerov, Peter Trebelev and Yerkebulan Razdykov. It billed itself as the UK's first alternative Islamic digital banking app: a Sharia-compliant, ethical digital account aimed at the UK's Muslim community, which its founders argued was financially underserved by interest-based conventional banking. It planned an alpha launch in spring 2020 and a full launch that summer, starting with a current account (and a premium tier later), and had applied to the Financial Conduct Authority for a license. It raised about $3.39 million. No shutdown, acquisition or other failure event was found — its status is unclear.
