01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
ReadyForZero was a San Francisco debt-management platform founded in 2010 by Rod Ebrahimi and Ignacio Thayer (Y Combinator summer 2010). Its free web app aggregated a user's debts — credit cards, student loans, mortgages — and recommended a repayment plan, with due-date reminders, spend-or-save comparisons and credit-score reporting to help debtors stay on track. Paid premium options added credit monitoring and automation. Backed by Citi Ventures, Polaris and YC, it raised about $5 million and said it had helped users pay down more than $240 million in debt.
