01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Zuora was a Redwood City enterprise software company best known as the pioneer of the subscription economy. Its monetization suite gave businesses billing, payments and revenue-recognition tools to run subscription and usage-based business models. Founded in 2007 by Salesforce veteran Tien Tzuo, Zuora went public on the NYSE in 2018 and in 2024 agreed to be taken private by Silver Lake and GIC for $1.7 billion. The acquisition, not a business failure, is the company's final event.
