01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Treato was an Israeli health data analytics company based in Or Yehuda, founded in 2007. It gathered user-generated health information from across the web plus professional medical advice, and turned it into insights on medical conditions, symptoms and medications for patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies. Its social portal let users search medication and treatment information, while its health data asset products and IQ services sold patient-voice analytics to pharma companies and healthcare marketing agencies. Commercial operations began in 2011 with offices in New York and Princeton, New Jersey; at its peak between 2013 and 2015 it employed 46 people and raised $35.5 million.

02 / Treato FAILURE REASONS

Failure reasons

Treato ran out of money and options at the same time. The company told the Tel Aviv District Court it had been unable to secure sufficient funding or an acquisition offer, leaving it insolvent: just $352,716 in assets against $8.4 million in debt. Two rounds of debt financing in 2015 and 2016 totaling $8.75 million only delayed the end. In August 2018 Treato filed for liquidation.
