01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Pro.com was a Seattle tech-powered home improvement company founded in 2013 by former Amazon executives Matt Williams (ex-Digg CEO) and Raji Subramanian. It began as a marketplace connecting homeowners with contractors and giving instant project price estimates, then pivoted to operating as a general contractor itself with in-house construction crews and a proprietary pricing engine. It raised over $60 million, including a $33 million Series B in 2018, and served markets in Washington, California and Colorado. The pandemic forced it to halt construction and lay off 52 employees in 2020.
