01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Lully was a San Francisco-based startup that built a pediatric sleep device aimed at stopping children's night terrors. Founded by Stanford Biodesign fellows physician Andy Rink and Varun Boriah, the company developed the Sleep Guardian, a hockey-puck-sized device placed under a child's mattress that delivered gentle, timed vibrations to nudge the child out of deep sleep before a night terror could occur, automating the clinically studied technique of scheduled awakenings. A companion app let parents track sleep patterns and monitor progress.
