01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Livefyre was a social engagement platform founded in December 2009 by Jordan Kretchmer and Henry Arlander. It began as a real-time commenting platform for bloggers (Livefyre Comments 3 launched July 2012) and grew into StreamHub (live blogging, live chat, real-time social curation, used by CNN, Fox News, The New York Times, CBS and NBCUniversal) and Livefyre Studio (content marketing and UGC curation). It had acquired Storify (September 2013) and the social analytics platform Realtidbits (November 2013). Both Adobe and Salesforce had previously been investors, and Adobe and Salesforce Ventures led a $47 million investment in Livefyre in 2015.
02 / Livefyre FAILURE REASONS
Failure factors
Adobe's official Livefyre End-of-Service notice stated that changing dynamics with social media providers (including Facebook and Twitter) made it challenging to keep offering a robust UGC solution, so Adobe ended the Livefyre service (last access 30 Nov 2021)—parent product kill after the earlier strategic Adobe acquisition.
Adobe cited changing Facebook/Twitter dynamics that made continuing a robust UGC product challenging.
Adobe made the decision to end the Livefyre service after integrating the acquired product into Experience Cloud.
