01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
BetterVet was a Boston-based full-service mobile veterinary network that delivered concierge-style vet care to pets' homes. Its tech-enabled model sent doctor-and-nurse teams on home visits with 'white glove' service, supported by an app for real-time scheduling and Fear Free-certified doctors to minimize pet anxiety. It also ran BetterVet for Business, a partnership program letting employers offer pet benefits. Co-founded by VetCor founder Bruce Herzfelder (CEO), former AVMA president Dr. John de Jong and MIT Sloan graduate Carolina Goncebat, it operated in 25 metropolitan areas and raised a $40 million Series A co-led by Alta Partners. In October 2024 it merged with rival The Vets; the merged entity continued under The Vets brand, covering 30+ cities with 80+ veterinary teams.
