01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Maza was a Los Angeles consumer fintech startup founded by Luciano Arango, Robbie Figueroa and Siggy Bilstein. Launched in 2022, it helped Spanish-speaking immigrants in the US access the financial system - guiding users through ITIN applications, bank accounts and debit cards without a Social Security number. The company discovered many users were small business owners and built tools for entity formation, financial management and payments. Backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Tusk Venture Partners and a $15 million Series A led by Wellington, it was acquired by Flex (Flexbase Technologies) for $40 million, a deal that closed on April 24, 2025; Maza was rebranded as Flex Consumer.
