Yiguo Fresh
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Yiguo Fresh (易果生鲜) was the consumer fresh-produce delivery brand of Shanghai Yiguo E-commerce, founded in 2005. It sold fruit, vegetables, seafood, meat, and dairy online across some 310 Chinese cities, promising farm-fresh quality via full cold-chain transport and delivery 365 days a year. Alibaba-backed (about $890M raised in total), it was once the flagship of China's fresh-food e-commerce wave.
02 / Yiguo Fresh FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
The economics of fresh delivery never worked: thin margins, spoilage, and expensive cold-chain logistics produced chronic losses. In October 2020 the Yiguo group collapsed into bankruptcy reorganization — subsidiaries including Yunxiang Supply Chain and Anxianda filed, with debts of roughly ¥2.3 billion (about $342 million).
