01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Pair was a Y Combinator-backed couples app launched in March 2012 by mobile studio Tenthbit (co-founder Oleg Kostour and a team of Canadian developers). The iOS app was a private social network for exactly two people: couples shared pictures, messages, video, sketches, locations, shared to-do lists and reminders, with the famous 'thumbkiss' feature that let partners touch the same spot on their screens and feel a vibration. Tenthbit raised a $4.2 million seed round in May 2012 from Yuri Milner, Dave Morin, SV Angel, CrunchFund, Tencent, Ashton Kutcher's A-Grade Ventures and others.
