01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Fabric was Twitter's mobile developer platform, launched in 2014 as a modular SDK suite built around Crashlytics (crash reporting) and Answers (mobile analytics), plus Digits for SMS authentication and Fastlane tooling. Aimed at helping app developers build, monitor and monetize mobile apps, it grew to serve apps reaching 2.5 billion active devices built by 580,000 developers. In January 2017, as Twitter slimmed down to refocus on its core service, Google acquired Fabric and folded it into Firebase, its Developer Products Group offering; the Fabric team joined Google, while Twitter retained Digits through the transition.
